Pizza by Benno – Who Makes Perth's Best Bloody Pizza? 🍕🍻

Righto, let's talk pizza.

I bloody love pizza. Always have. But I'm also one fussy bastard when it comes to a decent one.

I'm not talking about those pizzas where someone throws half the fridge on top, covers it in cheese and reckons they've created something special.

I'm talking about a proper pizza. Wood-fired, beautiful dough, good ingredients and someone behind the oven who actually knows what they're doing.

And for anyone wondering what my go-to pizza is, The Lot with hot chilli and anchovies. Yep, anchovies! Love 'em. A bit of salt, a bit of heat and plenty of flavour.

That's my kind of pizza.

And I'll tell you something. Making a bloody good pizza isn't much different from doing a good concrete job.

Get your foundations right, use the right materials, have the right tools and know what you're doing. Sounds pretty simple, doesn't it?

Well, after 20-odd years of concreting, I can tell you there's a big difference between someone who knows their trade and someone who just reckons they do.

Pizza's no different.

Now, I've eaten my fair share of pizzas around Perth, and there's two places that really stand out for me.

Pompeii Pizza in Dianella.

Bloody hell, these guys know how to make a pizza!

Without a doubt, my number one in Perth.

The only problem is it's always on the wrong bloody side of town! You'd think living south of the river someone could build me a decent Pompeii a bit closer to home.

But seriously, I've got no problem travelling for something that's worth it. And their pizza certainly is.

Then there's SIMPLE Italian in Applecross.

Another bloody good pizza joint and sitting comfortably at number two on my list.

Beautiful pizza, people who know what they're doing and somewhere I'd happily go back to again and again.

Now here's something that might upset a few people.

I couldn't care less what a good pizza costs.

Twenty bucks, thirty bucks, forty bucks. Who cares?

If someone has spent years learning their trade, buying quality ingredients, getting the dough right and making something that tastes bloody amazing, why shouldn't they charge good money for it?

It's no different from concrete. Everyone wants a good job, but not everyone understands what goes into getting one.

I'd rather pay a bit more and walk away happy than save ten bucks and spend the drive home whinging about it.

Anyway, enough of me carrying on.

I'm genuinely interested to hear what other people reckon.

Where's the best pizza you've had in Perth?

And don't just throw a restaurant name at me. Tell me what pizza you order and why it's so bloody good.

I'm always looking for somewhere new, especially south of the river, because driving all the way to Dianella every time I want a decent pizza is getting a bit ridiculous!

And if you're one of those people who reckons anchovies don't belong on pizza, that's fine. More for me! 😂

Cheers, Benno 🍕🍻

No free pizzas, no paid reviews, no fancy food critic bullshit. Just my own opinions and a bloke who loves a good feed.
