Cement Driveway vs Concrete Driveway – What's the Bloody Difference? 😂

Righto, here's something that's been making me laugh for over 20 years.

Every now and then the phone rings and someone says, "G'day mate, I'm chasing a price for a cement driveway."

Well, I'll tell you what. My ears prick up, my eyes light up and I think to myself, here we bloody go! 😂

Now, I'm not having a crack at anyone. If you're not in the industry, why would you know the difference?

But here's a quick lesson.

Cement is an ingredient. Concrete is the finished product.

Think of it like baking a cake. Cement is the flour, while concrete is the finished cake.

Concrete is made from cement, sand, stone and water, all mixed together in the right proportions.

And believe me, you wouldn't want a driveway made entirely out of cement paste. It'd cost a bloody fortune and crack like nobody's business!

After 20-odd years of concreting, I've heard just about everything. And honestly, I know exactly what people mean when they ask for a cement driveway.

I'm certainly not going to give someone a lecture over the phone.

But there's more to a good driveway than just pouring concrete. Ground preparation, compaction, reinforcement, thickness and drainage all play their part.

Get the foundations wrong and it doesn't matter how pretty the concrete looks!

Anyway, hopefully you've learnt something today.

Cement goes into concrete. Concrete goes into your driveway.

But if you still want a cement driveway...

I'll cement the fuck out of it for you! 😂🍻

Cheers, Benno
