If you've been reading through concreting websites, you've probably heard the same story a dozen times.

Look, there's nothing wrong with talking about the benefits of exposed aggregate, but I reckon there's a few more interesting things we could be discussing.
Like why the size of the stone matters when you're walking around barefoot.
Or why two driveways using exactly the same concrete mix can end up looking completely different.
Or how something as simple as getting the timing wrong when washing exposed aggregate can turn a beautiful job into an expensive headache.
They're the things I'd want to know before spending thousands of dollars on exposed aggregate.
So rather than give you another sales pitch, let me share a few things I've learnt from actually working with the stuff.
HERE'S A FEW THINGS I'VE LEARNT THE HARD WAY.
After 22 years working with concrete, I've become pretty particular about a few things.
Good suppliers, experienced concreters, the weather, timing and the mixes we use.
Here's a perfect example.
We only book one exposed aggregate job a week, preferably on a Saturday. I've found it's a good time to get the service and attention we need from our concrete suppliers.
Imagine we're halfway through your driveway. The first concrete truck has been and gone, the boys are working away, and we're waiting on the second load.
Ten minutes go by. Twenty minutes. Then an hour!
Meanwhile, the first load is already setting, and now we're trying to join two loads of concrete that are at completely different stages.
Not exactly what you want when you're paying thousands for a beautiful, consistent finish!
And that's just one of the things we consider before the first truck even arrives.
Stone size, preparation, washing, weather, experienced hands on the tools — they all matter.
It's the little 1% things that can make or break an exposed aggregate job.
